Business Process Automation Consultant

BPA Consultants help businesses analyse and redesign workflows to enable automation and improved performance. The role involves process mapping, recommending automation tools, and implementing solutions. Job Overview:

We are seeking a Business Process Automation (BPA) Consultant to help organisations improve operational efficiency by analysing workflows and implementing automation strategies. You will work closely with stakeholders to assess current processes, recommend suitable automation tools, and manage solution delivery. This position is available to candidates based in South Africa or working remotely.

Market-related, depending on qualifications and engagement level

Reports to Head of Operations, Consulting Director, or Automation Programme Lead

Working Conditions:

  • Location: South Africa or remote

  • Work Environment: Client-facing, project-based

  • Tools Provided: Access to automation tools, modelling platforms, and collaboration systems

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and document current business processes, workflows, and system integrations.

  • Identify automation opportunities and design end-to-end automation strategies.

  • Recommend appropriate tools and platforms (e.g. RPA, low-code platforms, workflow engines).

  • Lead workshops and stakeholder engagements to gather requirements and drive process improvements.

  • Support the configuration, testing, and deployment of automated workflows and systems.

  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure successful implementation and integration.

  • Provide training and change management support to end-users.

  • Monitor performance and recommend iterative improvements post-deployment.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of business process modelling, mapping, and analysis.

  • Experience with automation platforms such as UiPath, Power Automate, Appian, or Mendix.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to recommend practical solutions.

  • Familiarity with enterprise systems such as ERP, CRM, and HR platforms.

  • Basic technical knowledge of APIs, databases, and integration frameworks.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Analysis, Information Systems, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

  • 3+ years of consulting experience in business process automation, operations optimisation, or digital transformation.

  • Certification in business analysis (CBAP, CCBA) or automation tools is an advantage.

  • Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or Agile methodologies is beneficial.
