IT Programme Manager

IT Programme Managers oversee the planning, coordination, and delivery of multi-project programmes aligned with strategic objectives. This role requires strong stakeholder management, risk mitigation, and experience with governance frameworks such as PMBOK or MSP. A background in enterprise IT delivery is essential.

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced IT Programme Manager to oversee and coordinate large-scale, multi-project initiatives within complex IT environments. This strategic role requires strong leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to manage timelines, budgets, and stakeholder expectations. Candidates may be based in South Africa or work remotely.

Remuneration:

Market-related, commensurate with experience and programme complexity

Reporting Line:

Reports to Chief Information Officer (CIO), IT Director, or Portfolio Management Office (PMO) Lead

Working Conditions:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, manage, and deliver end-to-end IT programmes involving multiple concurrent projects.

  • Align programme goals with organisational strategy and business outcomes.

  • Coordinate cross-functional teams, vendors, and project managers to ensure consistent delivery.

  • Monitor programme progress, manage risks, and implement mitigation strategies.

  • Ensure effective communication with stakeholders, sponsors, and executive leadership.

  • Manage budgets, resources, and change control processes.

  • Track benefits realisation, ensuring business value is achieved upon programme completion.

  • Drive governance, reporting, and continuous improvement practices.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, software development, or digital transformation.

  • Proven ability to manage large, complex programme portfolios with competing priorities.

  • Skilled in stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and conflict resolution.

  • Proficiency in project/programme management tools (e.g. MS Project, Jira, Confluence).

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills.

  • Understanding of Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery models.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or Business.

  • 5+ years of experience in programme or senior project management.

  • PMP, PgMP, PRINCE2, or similar certification preferred.

  • Experience managing enterprise-scale IT or digital initiatives across geographically dispersed teams.
