Product Owner

Product Owners act as the voice of the customer within Agile teams, translating business needs into user stories and prioritising the product backlog. Close collaboration with developers, designers, and stakeholders is key. Experience in digital product development and Agile frameworks is essential.

Job Overview:

We are looking for a skilled Product Owner to take ownership of product planning, backlog management, and delivery prioritisation. You will serve as the bridge between business stakeholders and development teams, ensuring that product features are aligned with user needs and strategic objectives. This role is open to professionals based in South Africa or working remotely.

Market-related, depending on product complexity and experience level

Reports to Head of Product, Programme Manager, or CTO

Working Conditions:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and communicate the product vision and roadmap in alignment with business goals.

  • Own and maintain the product backlog, prioritising features based on business value, user needs, and technical feasibility.

  • Collaborate closely with UX/UI designers, developers, testers, and stakeholders throughout the development cycle.

  • Write clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional requirements.

  • Lead backlog grooming, sprint planning, and review sessions to support Agile delivery.

  • Monitor product performance, gather user feedback, and continuously refine the product.

  • Serve as the primary contact for product-related queries and decisions during delivery.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of product lifecycle management and Agile methodologies.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to balance user needs, technical constraints, and business priorities.

  • Skilled in tools such as Jira, Confluence, Trello, or Azure DevOps.

  • Analytical thinking with the ability to interpret user data and feedback.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, IT, Product Management, or a related field.

  • 3–5 years of experience in a Product Owner or Business Analyst role.

  • Certification in Product Ownership or Agile methodologies (e.g. CSPO, SAFe POPM) is advantageous.

  • Experience working in digital product, SaaS, or mobile app environments is beneficial.
